Avoiding Material Thinning
The large contact area of a radius die helps control the way material flows, minimizing the undesirable effect of material thinning at the outer bend surface. Excessive thinning weakens the part. By distributing the forming load over a larger, round surface, the radius tool preserves the cross-sectional area and thickness of the material throughout the bend, which is critical for parts where strength and uniform thickness are essential specifications.
